Woman calls Racism, Sues Walmart
Essie Gundy, California resident is suing Walmart for racial discrimination. Essie was shopping at a local Walmart located in Rvierside. When shopping for a hair comb she came across a particular section in the store that quickly caught her attention.
We have often seen various items locked up in Walmart, CVS, Rite Aid to name a few. High priced razors, high price dental products and so on. But ethnic hair product locked up could be questionable, especially when the entire section is completely locked up in a glass showcase!
Essie Gundy felt the same and could not believe her eyes when she went to purchase a 48 cent comb which was also locked up along with an entire ethnic hair product section. Grundy’s attorney, Gloria Allred had this to say, “This is discrimination in our view. That is second-class citizenship. That is being treated with the utmost disrespect. That’s racial profiling.”
Walmart respond with the following statement, “We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind at Walmart. We serve more than 140 million customers weekly, crossing all demographics, and are focused on meeting their needs while providing the best shopping experience at each store. We’re sensitive to this situation and also understand, like other retailers, that some products such as electronics, automotive, cosmetics and other personal care products are subject to additional security. Those determinations are made on a store-by-store basis using data supporting the need for the heightened measures. While we’ve yet to review a complaint, we take this situation seriously and look forward to addressing it with the court.”
Essie Grundy is asking for Walmart to change it’s policy. She would also like for Walmart to pay her lawyer fees and $4,000 in damages.
