Five-Thirteen (The Movie vs. Real Life)
Greetings Good People! Hope this blog finds you in good health and spirit… Or I hope when you find it, your in g… Fuck it, nevemind… What’s good! Lets hope its all good and if not, at lease its al-right! Its been six-months since my last blog. A lot has happened not only for me personally, but for my group, The Outlawz, as well. Recently, We were asked to be a part of a movie, musically, titled “Five-Thirteen.”
Having never seen the movie, we got down with it anyway (check was right!) and came up with some dope records, most notably the track we just released with the dogg father named “Karma”. What is “karma”? Is it energy? Cause and effect. Whatever you perceive it to be, please understand that it isn’t a new concept, as shown in this poem I found from 7th century B.C.:
Now as a man is like this or like that, according as he acts and according as he behaves, so will he be; a man of good acts will become good, a man of bad acts, bad; he becomes pure by pure deeds, bad by bad deeds; And here they say that a person consists of desires, and as is his desire, so is his will; and as is his will, so is his deed; and whatever deed he does, that he will reap.
Universal Law says, “You reap what you sow…” Christians have their “golden rule”, and so on and so forth. Most of us know of this principle, but do we practice it? Honestly I attempt to be Karmetically correct, but I am human and fall short of the “glory” at times. But for the most part I am a good guy and good things often happen to me and for me. Is it Karma? Do we carry our own personal Karma from lifetime to lifetime? I believe so…
Now, back to the movie, which surprisingly is better than expected. Kudos to cast, crew and all involved. First, making a movie is no easy task. Usually, from the time a major motion picture has a script that movie execs approve, it takes 7-10 years before you and I even see it! We are talking about millions of dollars here.
So, even though there are a shit load of bad movies released every year, please know a lot of time, energy and big $$$ goes into entertaining us all. Think about that the next time your inhaling your popcorn and complaining about how the latest “Spider-Man” ain’t shit! Now I agree that movies now days are way overpriced.
That’s why I have a criteria and categories for flics I want to see: Either I will pay to go see one I believe to be great i.e. “Wolf of Wall Street” or it falls into the “redbox, Netflix, HBO” category, i.e. anything by Tyler Perry! Five-Thirteen will win no Oscars, but it is ambitious in its story telling. Weaving three stories together that in the beginning seem to be going nowhere fast right up until the last 20-30 minutes of the flick. I don’t want to ruin it for you so I will stop there and just encourage you to give it a chance when hits theaters this November.
I will also encourage all of us to keep our Karma in check. And if at any point in your life, bad things seem to keep happening to you, or things are just not going your way, take a trip down memory lane and try and see if there’s anything or anyone you’ve wronged with bad intent. The past is the past. Nothing you can do about that. However, the future isn’t here yet so maybe you could make a change and correct some of that negative energy that’s following you around. Just a thought! Salute.
